华侨互助工团（工团）于1916年由一群中国海员在利物浦创立。该组织的宗旨是促进定居利物浦或途经利物浦港的中国海员之间的互助与团结。当时，利物浦是英国第二大港口，是英国跨大西洋贸易的主要枢纽，也是英国棉纺织业（主要集中在兰开夏郡）棉花进口和纺织品出口的主要港口。
随着居住在伦敦的华人数量不断增长，工团迁至伦敦丹麦街22号的地下室（22 Denmark Street, London WC2H 8NH），以便更好地服务于华人社区。随后，在1962年，通过大规模的筹款活动，该会购得了位于伦敦贝特曼街12号（12 Bateman Street, London W1D 4AH）的自有会所。
一个多世纪以来，工团始终秉持其使命：联结英国各地的华人，弘扬中华文化，促进中英两国人民之间的友谊与理解，并倡导互助友爱的精神。该组织在促进英国华人福祉以及组织健康、文化和体育活动方面发挥了不可或缺的作用。

A Brief History
The Chinese Mutual Aid Workers’ Club (the Club) was founded in Liverpool in 1916 by a group of Chinese seamen. Its mission was to foster mutual aid and solidarity among Chinese seamen who had settled in Liverpool or were passing through the port. At the time, Liverpool was Britain’s second-largest port and a major hub for transatlantic trade; it was also the primary port for importing raw cotton and exporting finished textiles for the UK’s cotton industry, which was concentrated in Lancashire.
As the Chinese population in London grew, the Club relocated to a basement at 22 Denmark Street, London WC2H 8NH, to better serve the Chinese community. Subsequently, in 1962, through a major fundraising effort, the Club was able to purchase its own premises at 12 Bateman Street, London W1D 4AH.
For over a century, the Club has remained dedicated to its mission: connecting Chinese people across the UK, promoting Chinese culture, fostering friendship and understanding between the peoples of China and the UK, and championing a spirit of mutual aid and camaraderie. The organization has played an indispensable role in advancing the well-being of the UK’s Chinese community and in organizing health, cultural, and sporting activities.
